Wolf Spider, one of the Animals that Eat Their Own Young XD

2 komentar

The wolf spider. These are solitary spiders that are quite large but are harmless unless provoked. In fact, they are useful as they eat other insects that are harmful to plants, and they also eat their own.Wolf spiders carry their own eggs with them in a special sac in their bodies. Once they are born, the babies congregate together on the mother's stomach, ready to be fed. In some cases, the babies may even wind up being the mother's next meal. Unfortunately, nature is cruel that way. Read more!

the amazing cockroach -.-"

Did you know that the cockroach can live without its head for an entire week? The facts about this insect will amaze you.
Let's say a cockroach finds itself in a frigid climate where the temperature has plunged below freezing. What do you think it would do? Keep in mind that the mercury has dropped below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, 0 Celsius. If you roll your eyes and answer, "Whatever," you're absolutely right. The cockroach would do whatever it needs to do to exist. If it were living near you, this tough, little insect would simply become your housemate. So you haven't bought groceries for about two weeks? No problem. The cockroach holds a black belt to the infinite degree in survival.

This six-legged critter can live without food for an entire month and hold its breath for forty minutes if necessary. Even if you cut off its head, it would still run around the house for about a week before dying of thirst because its brain is not in its head. It's scattered throughout its body.

What is dust made of?

Actually, there are three main components of dust: first, dead skin cells, second, the dried feces and dessicated corpses of dust mites (lovely thought, eh? When people develop a house-dust allergy, this is usually the component they are reacting to), and the last component by volume is tiny fibers shed by clothing -- cotton is bad for this, and jeans are the worst. This is for ordinary house dust. (Incidentally, dust mites are not generally visible, except with a microscope; they are 200-300 microns long, they eat dead skin cells and live in bedding, carpets and soft furnishings. Always. Trust me on this, anything a year old or more has a good population of them.In the case of a new basement, on the other hand, the primary component of dust is likely to be the obvious: concrete. Elsewhere in a brand-new house plaster and plasterboard both "shed" copiously over the first few weeks.

And outdoor dust is fine particles of soil and stone dust (composition dependent on location and prevailing winds), with a hefty component of pollen and other plant material.

Dissociative Identity Disorder :) :(

The modern term for this is dissociative identity disorder, or DID for short. It is a very controversial diagnosis, because it is so rare, and many times the disorder turns out to be iatrogenic (that is, created by the therapist. For example, your therapist plants in your mind the idea that maybe your symptoms are caused by DID, so you start manifesting different personalities to please him/her, etc.). And also because it lends itself to malingering ("I didn't kill him! That was my evil personality!")

DID was once known as... multiple personality disorder.

We don't know a whole lot about it, because real cases are so rare. The main theory is is that DID is an extreme response to some terrible trauma in childhood, like horrific abuse. The child then dissociates (a feeling of being out of your body) as a coping mechanism to deal with the abuse. This leads to the creation of a seperate personality. It is the seperate personality who actually experiences the abuse, while the primary personality can live a "normal" life without experiencing the abuse. In this way, it is a highly specialized coping mechanism that becomes maladaptive later in life, because the seperate personality never "leaves" the person, but takes over from time-to-time. When the split personality takes over, the person acts, thinks, and even talks, very differently than they normally are. So, the person has streches of time when they don't know what they did.

Treatment consists of reintegrating the personality (or personalities) back into the consciousness, so that the person is whole. This also involves acknowledging and dealing with the original trauma.

Why people want plastic surgery

1 komentar

Potential patients for plastic surgery come from every economic level and age range, suggests a study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Arlington Heights, Ill. Moreover, maintain researchers, motivations are personal, but not vanity oriented."Finally, we have a study that reveals the truth about real people considering plastic surgery," announces Walter Erhardt, chair of the ASPS Public Education Committee. "It's not just women over 50 with high incomes who are seriously considering procedures. It's the young mom next door, the waiter who served you coffee this morning--even your coworker."The study, which polled people considering plastic surgery within the next two years, found almost 30% reported average household incomes of less than $30,000. Forty-one percent had annual incomes of $31,000-60,000, and 16%, $61,000-90,000. Only 13% claimed salaries of more than $90,000 per year. The participants' age ranges varied as well: 26% were 18-29 years old; 38%, 30-49; and 36%, 50 or older. Eighty-one percent had not undergone plastic surgery, while 19% already had at least one cosmetic procedure. Those polled came from all regions of the U.S. More than 85% were Caucasian and 85% were women. In addition to the general poll, in-depth interviews were conducted with those individuals who actively were considering plastic surgery. They had sought information from the ASPS Physician Referral Service in the past 18 months. Most of those interviewed felt they could achieve emotional, psychological, and social improvements by having plastic surgery. Although a majority of participants were interested in upgrading their appearance, many emphasized they were not motivated by vanity. Instead, they associated plastic surgery with fixing a bothersome physical feature. When asked why they wanted to have plastic surgery, 75% said to gain physical benefits such as better appearance, becoming more active, and being healthier. Approximately 70% cited emotional and psychological benefits, such as greater happiness, self-esteem, and self-confidence. In addition, 45%--more notably men than women--expected social benefits from plastic surgery, including being more accepted and attractive.

Why People Smoke

0 komentar

Most people start smoking when they are in their teens and are addicted by the time they reach adulthood. Some have tried to quit but have returned to cigarettes because smoking is such a strong addiction. It is a habit that is very difficult to break. There are many different reasons why people smoke. Three of the main reasons that young people smoke are to look mature, to be like their friends, and to experiment. Since teens see older people all around them smoking, especially their parents and relatives, they smoke to act older. If their friends or peers smoke, they may feel pressured into doing the same to be accepted. The last reason is the excitement of experimenting with something that is forbidden. In Massachusetts it is against the law for anyone under 18 years old to smoke. Usually parents do not allow their under age teens to smoke. Therefore, smoking becomes very attractive. It is exciting to get cigarettes and sneak away to smoke without being caught.

Adults smoke for other reasons. They may have a lot of stress and pressures because of economic and personal problems. They may be unemployed or working but not making enough money to take care of themselves and their families. They may be homeless, or they may be dealing with alcohol or cocaine/heroin addictions. Some may be in bad marriages or relationships in which there is physical and/or verbal abuse. All these people may smoke to feel relaxed or to give them energy while going through a hard time.

Whether young or old, some people smoke to control their weight. Smokers, on the average, weigh seven pounds less than non-smokers. Smoking reduces a person's appetite. It lessens his/her sense of taste and smell. This could be why ex-smokers gain weight after quitting cigarettes. Food tastes and smells so much better.

Finally, there are people who say they love to smoke. Smoking gives them pleasure. It just makes them feel good.
